About
I purchased my first 35mm SLR when I was 19 years old. I immediately enrolled in a home study
program called the New York Institute of Photography and this is where I learned the fundamentals.
My passion has always been with landscape photography. I grew up in the Southwest and have
always loved exploring the desert. To me, there is no greater feeling than connecting to Mother Nature. It's like food for the soul.
The sound of my boots striking the the desert floor and the sound of my shutter releasing might be
two of my favorite sounds. I especially love exploring the desert in search of a new perspective.
Part of photography is stopping and looking at things that others would just walk by.
The desert is the one place where I can go to just be. When I'm in the desert I feel a sense of peace
I don't feel in the city - It's about life and death in the desert.
A friend of mine once asked, "would you still explore the desert if you didn't have photography?"
I suppose I would still explore the desert Southwest even if I didn't have photography, but
photography motivates me to keep searching for new ideas and places. I guess part of it is
that I love sharing how I see Mother Nature with others.
At 35, I purchased my first digital camera and began learning about the digital world. I was hooked immediately. I loved the fact that I could shoot several hundred photos on an outing and could
dump anything I didn't like at no extra cost. I probably dump 90% of the photos I take.
I'm currently shooting with a Canon EOS 40D DSLR. I use a variety of filters
and of course I never leave the house without my Manfrotto Carbon tripod.
Over the past couple years I have learned a lot about editing utilizing Adobe
Lightroom and have even managed to put a couple of websites together.
My goal is to share with you the beautiful places and moments I have
experienced while photographing the desert Southwest.
